POPULATION - An asset or A burden ?
Recently, UN published a report on population , where UN pointed out that the population of India will surpass population that of China by 2027. This estimation came much earlier than it was expected and there have been many speculation about " How India will look like being the most populous country". Many debates are going on where political leaders and others, are suggesting that the population will not do any benefit to India and this must be controlled by a strict law , unless we do it , we will be in a huge crisis.
But the question is,"Is really the situation such like that or Is it an exaggeration?".
Firstly, we have to look at the current position of India which is the host to highest youth population around the whole world , which is called as "demographic dividend ", where working population becomes higher than non-working population . Now, one must ask " what are the implication of being a highest youth populous country?". The implication are very simple , with more number of youths , India has high working population which can work and contribute largely to the economy , thereby opening a huge channel for a vast economic growth.
But are the situations such like that , today?
We are currently facing a huge crisis of unemployment in India , which is said to be at 45-years high. This shows that, India despite having a youth population isn't getting any benefit of it . And with this, one can conclude that the population which India is currently hosting becomes a burden for it and it is unable to handle it. So, the answer for above question is yes the situation today is woeful where population is increasing , but we have no resources to take benefit of that .
Now talking in a broader sense and taking example of a country which face the same situation in 1970s , that is China.
China was at the same position in which today India is, and what it did changed the condition of China and we are watching its impact today. China hugely invest on healthcare services and education of its people, increasing the women's participation in the economy and at the same time it opens its economy to have more FDIs in the country to provide job , in this way it was providing skill to people as well as job to them with better healthcare services due to which the living condition of its people got uplifted which in turn boost the economy in a magical way. With this we can say, population works as an asset as it has huge benefits starting from large working population, cheap labour , etc. which can do wonders.
This thing is missing in India , yes we have started investing in healthcare services and government is coming up with schemes like Ayushmaan bharat , we have also started to attract FDIs , but there is a lag due to our impractical and irrelevant Education policy. Poverty is still a problem for India today , and there seems to be no way to end it. At one hand our population is increasing on the other we are exploiting our resources, which are already limited and adding to this we have climatic issues which are becoming severe and population is contributing in it. All this is making Population a burden for India .
It is all upto a country on how it percieves its population - as an asset or as a burden.
Possibilities are immense with huge population , we can take benefit of it by providing better living conditions to our citizens , or continuing to the same path will prove devastating for us in the upcoming years.

But IN MY OPINION , if we use our population in a right way , providing better social schemes , providing better infrastructure and better living , we will have a huge boost in our economy. It is evidented by various researches that a small nudge in living condition will hugely impact the economy of a country , thereby making it more prosperous and that potential India already have giving its socio-political structure. Also, controlling the population not in the way that China did by implementing "One-child policy" , but by increasing awareness, providing good health infrastructure , spreading sex education among citizens and most importantly, empowering women is the way forward.
It is all upto a country on how it percieves its population - as an asset or as a burden.
